The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-1 attempts a jump shot which misses.  B-5 is fouled by A-5 while trying to secure the rebound.    After the whistle A-3 is charged with an unsporting technical foul for making derogatory comments about the ruling.  Team A now has 10 team fouls.  The officials award B-5 two free throws followed by two free throws being attempted by any member of Team B.  The ball is then awarded out of bounds to Team B at the division line opposite the table.  Were the officials correct?

The officials were NOT correct.  While Team B will attempt two free throws for the technical foul and receive the ball for a throw-in from the division line opposite the table, the foul by A-5 was the ninth team foul of the half for Team A.  Therefore, B-5 should have been awarded a one-and-one bonus free throw situation.   (References: Rule 10 Penalties 3a, 10-4 Penalty, 8-6-2, 8-3)

  1. THOMAS HANBACH / NY BOARD # 50

Makes you aware to get this play right. The One-One Foul Shots should be with no one lined up as you will have the Technical Shots next/ with the Ball at the Division Line for Team B. Thanks
