The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

There are 1.7 seconds remaining in the game.  Team A is leading by one and has the ball for a throw-in on the end line in backcourt.  A-1 throws a baseball pass toward his basket in front court.  The ball hits the floor inbounds and is headed out of bounds untouched.  A-5 steps on the end line, jumps and taps the ball back inbounds.   Handle the situation.

A violation occurred when A-5 touched the ball since A-5 was out of bounds.  By rule this violation is an out-of-bounds violation not a throw-in violation.  The ball will be put in play at the spot nearest where the ball was touched.  The ball will NOT be put in play at the original throw-in spot.  1.7 seconds should still be on the clock.
