A-1 has received the ball to attempt a free throw. At this point, B-1 leaves his spot along the lane and heads down court. A-3, who is outside the three-point arc, decides to enter the empty spot.
Handle the situation.
B-1’s actions should result in the covering official giving the delayed dead-ball signal. A-1 would be allowed to finish his attempt and if A-1 was unsuccessful, A-1 would be awarded a substitute free throw. However, in this case, A-3 violated by crossing the three-point arc. This results in a double free throw violation. The free throw is cancelled. The ball will be awarded via the alternating possession procedure.
