The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-1 is fouled and is entitled to two free throws.  The official indicates one and one.  The first free throw is missed.  B-1 rebounds the ball and signals for a time out. During the time out, the scorer notifies the officials A-1 should have received two free throws.

Handle the situation.


When the timeout is over, A-1 will be awarded his second free throw with the players occupying the proper lane spots.  Play will continue off the made or missed free throw.  This is because there has been no change of possession since the error occurred.

In this play situation it is important for the officials to notify both coaches as soon as possible as to how play will resume.
