The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

Both teams are in the bonus.  During the 4th quarter, dribbler A1 is fouled by B1 in the backcourt.  After the whistle, A1 dribbles the length of the court and dunks the ball in his basket.  The official rules a technical foul for dunking a dead ball.  It is A1’s 5th foul.

Handle the situation.


A1 is disqualified and is not permitted to attempt the bonus free throws.  A1’s substitute will attempt those free throws.  No one will line up along the lane.  After those free throws have been completed, Team B will be awarded two free throws for the technical foul on A1.  Then Team B will be awarded the ball for a designated spot throw-in at the division line opposite the table.
