The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-1 drives to the basket to attempt a layup.  The ball enters the basket from below and passes through the basket rising above the ring.  B-5 jumps and touches the ball while it is within the imaginary cylinder above the ring.  

Handle the situation.


Although touching the ball while it is within the imaginary cylinder above the ring is normally basket interference, in this case it is not.  This is because the ball was already dead.  This was due to the ball passing through the basket from below.  Since A-1 was the last to touch the ball, Team B will be awarded the ball on the endline for a designated spot throw-in.
