The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

During a timeout, A-5 believes that she has been replaced and remains on the bench when play resumes.  Team A only has four players on the court.  When the coach recognizes this situation, he yells at A-5 to get in the game.  A-5 is observed returning to the court while play is underway.

Handle the situation.

By rule, this is a technical foul since all players are required to return to the floor at approximately the same time after a timeout.  Team A is charged with the technical foul.  No player is charged.  The coach does not lose the use of the coaching box.  The team foul count is increased by one just as with any other technical foul. Team B will be awarded two free throws with no players lined up.  Team B will be awarded a designated spot throw-in from the spot out of bounds at the division line opposite the table.

Very Good Play. Correct and the Officials should be aware to make sure they have
Five Players for both Teams before administering the throw-in. Thanks!
