Play of the Day 403 (2023-24)

1 Comment on Play of the Day 403 (2023-24)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

During a free throw, B-3 crosses the three point arc while the ball is in the air and before it contacts the ring.  The attempt does not contact the ring or go through the basket.

Handle the situation.

By rule, this is a double free throw violation.  The crossing of the arc by B-5 is a delayed free throw violation.  When the ball was an airball, this is a violation on the shooter.  The combination makes this a double free throw violation.  If this is the last free throw, the ball will be awarded to the team with the alternating possession arrow on the endline for a designated spot throw-in.  If additional free throw(s) are to be awarded, play will continue with the next free throw.

Very Interesting Play. This Play, as correctly Ruled, might be hard to explain to the Coach as the
    double violation occurred. Thanks!
