A-5 is attempting a free throw. B-5 enters the lane before the release of the ball. A-5 does not hit the ring.
Handle the situation.
In situations where there is a violation by the defense along the lane and the shooter shoots an air ball, consideration should always be given to the possibility that the defender distracted the shooter. If such a determination is made, then the shooter should be awarded a substitute free throw. If not, then a double free throw violation has occurred. The ball will be awarded to the team with the next possession under the alternating possession procedure.
