The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
The teams line up the wrong way for the opening tip. Play begins and then continues to go in the wrong direction for almost four minutes. Finally it is discovered that the teams have been going in the wrong direction.
Handle the situation.
All points scored count as if the teams had gone in the correct direction and scored in their own basket. All fouls committed count. Once the mistake is recognized, the officials should stop play and make sure the teams know which basket they should be trying to score in before continuing. At half time the teams will switch baskets as in any other game.
