The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-1 drives to the basket and a foul by B-3 is ruled by the Lead while A-1 is going up for a layup. B5 attempts to block the shot, misses and winds up slapping the backboard causing it to shake. The ball hits the ring but does not go in the basket.
Handle the situation.
B-5’s actions constitute defensive basket interference. The goal will be awarded. Since the goal was successful, A-1 will be awarded one free throw. Play will resume as after any ordinary free throw.
