The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

During the 2nd quarter the ball goes out of bounds.  After the whistle sounds, B-1(#4)  intentionally shoves A-1.  The officials rule a technical foul for intentional contact during a dead ball.  Team A is awarded two free throws and the ball at the division line for a throw-in.

With 7:31 remaining in the 4th quarter B-1(#4) intentionally fouls A-3 during a live ball.  After the whistle B-1 begins cursing out A-3.  The official rules a technical foul on B-1.  A-6 and A-7 leave the bench and come out onto the court by the free throw lane.  No member of Team B’s bench comes onto the court.  No fight takes place.  Handle the situation.

By rule B-1 is ejected for receiving his 2nd technical foul.  Also, A-6 and A-7 who left the bench receive flagrant technical fouls and are ejected since they left the bench under circumstances where a fight might break out.  The head coach for Team A is charged with one indirect technical foul for the two members of his bench who entered the court and did not fight.  This results in the loss of use of the coaching box.

There are no offsetting fouls in this situation since none of the technical fouls are similar.  Free throws are attempted in the order of foul occurrence.  1st, A-3 will attempt two free throws for the intentional personal foul.  Then, any player or eligible substitute of Team A will attempt two free throws for the technical foul on B-1.  Next, any player or eligible substitute of Team B will attempt two free throws for the technical fouls on A-6 and A-7.  Since the last foul was the technical fouls for leaving the bench, Team B is awarded the ball at the division line for a throw-in.  No free throws are attempted for the indirect technical foul on the Team A head coach.(References: Rule 10.4.7, 4-14-1, 10-5-5, 8-6-2, 8-3, 10-7 Penalty 8-b-1, 10-5-5 Penalty)
