The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
During the 2nd quarter, A-1 is replaced by A-6. A-1 is mad at his coach for taking him out of the game and removes his jersey and his tee shirt while sitting on the bench. The referee rules a technical foul on A-1 and an indirect technical foul on the head coach. The referee informs the coach that he has lost the use of the coaching box. The officials award Team B two free throws and the ball at the division line for a throw-in. Were the officials correct?
The officials were correct. It is a technical foul to remove your jersey within the visual confines of the gym. Since A-1 was bench personnel at the time that he did this, this results in an indirect technical foul being ruled on the Team A head coach.
