The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-3 is fouled while attempting a jump shot.  The ball hits the ring, bounces up and contacts the support structure above the backboard.  The ball then goes through the basket.

Handle the situation.


Once the ball contacts the support structure for the backboard, the try ends as the ball is now dead.  A dead ball passed through the basket.  However, A-3 was fouled in the act of shooting and should be awarded free throws.

    Very Good Play. Correct. The ball is dead for hitting the support, but there are 2 Foul shots.
