A-1 races downcourt on a fast break. B-2 attempts to block the layup but misses contacting the backboard and causing it to shake while the try is in the imaginary cylinder above the ring.
Handle the situation.
This is a basket interference violation under the new rule for this season. It does not matter why B-2 contacted the backboard. Causing it to shake while a try is in the imaginary cylinder, on or in the basket or is contacting the backboard is now a violation. Since the violation is by the defense, the goal is awarded to Team A. The ruling official should be sure to notify the table regarding the outcome of the play. Team B may move along the end line on the ensuing throw-in.
