The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-1 is trapped by B-1 and B-2 in the corner outside the three-point arc. A-1 requests and is granted a timeout. Where will the throw-in be when play is resumed?
The ensuing throw-in will be from the 28-foot mark on that side of the court. By rule, any stoppage of play other than an out-of-bounds situation will result in a throw-in from one of the designated “magic” spots. This includes timeouts, injuries, blood, water on the floor, etc.
Of course, out-of-bounds situations result in a throw-in from the spot nearest the ball touching or being touched out of bounds. This is not affected by a timeout during the ensuing throw-in. Resuming play after such a timeout is still from the original throw-in spot.
