Play of the Day 525 (2025-26)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-5 attempts a two point goal.  While the ball is on the ring, B-5 gets his hand caught in the net.  This causes the ring to move.  The ball falls off the ring.

Handle the situation.

The basket interference rule provides an exception concerning contact with the net.  If such contact is with the net alone, the official must determine if the contact had any effect on the ball that would rise to the level of basket interference.  In this case, since the ring moved, it clearly had some effect on the ball.  Basket interference should be ruled and two points should be awarded to Team A.

Correct. We must be aware of the Basket Interference Rule and correctly rule this play.
    Thanks!
