The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

During the 1st quarter the official notices that A-1 is wearing earrings.  The official charges the head coach with a direct technical foul since A-1 is not properly equipped.  Is the official correct?

The official is NOT correct.  No technical foul is charged for the wearing of impermissible items.  The player in question simply cannot participate until the situation is corrected.

  1. Rick Gilstrap

As time clicks down near the end of Q1, A1 starts the habitual motion typical of shooting as he drives the lane. Before he releases the ball for his shot, He is fouled by B1 then time runs out. A1 releases his shot after the buzzer and it is a made 2-pt shot. The center ref has a clear view of the action and signals a foul on B1 before the quarter ends and before the shot is released. The center ref reports the foul, signals that the basket was not good, awards 2 free throws to A1, and puts 1 second back on the clock.
