    Sir, this comment comes from a 46-year official of both high school and college D1 and D2 levels…
    I fought the officiating crew for not communicating before the time out who was to be the shooter upon the return to the free throw line, then possibly reviewing what was going to be occurring once the return to play began and then an additional check once the shooter stepped to the free throw line to accept the free throws.
    If you’re going to penalize the coach how do you prove intent?!

      I agree that there are protocols for making certain about who comes to the free throw line. The question here refers to who is charged with a technical foul. As the answer indicates, it is not the head coach but rather the player who tries to attempt free throws that he/she is not entitled to.
