Play of the Day 467 (2024-25)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-1 is on a breakaway in a close game.  A-1 lays the ball in the basket and returns to the floor.  After returning to the floor, A-1 is plowed by B-1.

Handle the situation.

Once the ball passed through the goal, the ball became dead.  The official needs to decide if the contact is excessive enough to be ruled intentional or flagrant.  If so, then a technical foul should be ruled against B-1.  Team A will be awarded two free throws and a designated spot throw-in opposite the table.  If not, then, by rule, the contact is incidental.  Play should continue without interruption.
