Play of the Day #231 (2021-22)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

While A1 is dribbling the ball in the frontcourt, B1 reaches in and fouls A1 on the arm.  After the whistle A1 and B1 get engaged in verbally taunting each other.  A double technical foul is ruled.  After all fouls have been reported to the scorer, the team foul counts for both teams are seven.

Handle the situation.

A double technical foul is a point of interruption play.  Play should resume from the point at which the game was interrupted.  Since the team foul count for Team B is now at seven, this means that the common foul ruled against B1 was the sixth team foul of the half for Team B.  This is the point of interruption.  The penalty for the common foul when the team foul count is less than seven is a throw-in from out of bounds nearest to where the foul occurred.
