Play of the Day #291 (2022-23)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-3 drives into lane and launches a short runner.  While the ball is on the ring, B-5 touches the ball.  After this, airborne A-3 collides with B-4 who has a legal guarding position.

Handle the situation.

B-5’s touching of the ball while it is on the ring is basket interference.  Team A will be awarded two points because of this violation despite the actions of A-3 after the violation.  While under usual circumstances the ball would become dead when basket interference occurs, in this case the ball remains live until the airborne shooter returns to the floor.  The airborne shooter will be charged with a player control foul.

Very Interesting Play. Correct, but this Play could easily get misinterpreted. B-5 action caused
the Basket Interference, count the basket and then you have the foul on A-3. Thanks!
