The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

Neither team is in the bonus.  With less than a minute remaining in the game, Team A is attempting to run out the clock.  A-1 is dribbling the ball when B-1 reaches in and fouls A-1 with 47 seconds remaining.  Immediately after this foul, B-2 clothes lines A-1 knocking him hard to the floor.  A-1 jumps up and pushes B-2.  B-6, B-7 and B-8 come onto the court as does A-6 and A-7.  The coaches and officials prevent the situation from getting any worse.  No fight takes place.

Handle the situation.

B-1 will be charged with a common foul.  Since the teams are not in the bonus, no free throws will be attempted.  A-1 and B-2 will be charged with a double technical foul since their actions occurred during a dead ball.   B-2’s foul should be considered flagrant since his actions were intentional and was a striking action above the shoulders.  This will result in his disqualification.  A-1’s retaliation was a push and should result in a technical foul for intentional contact during a dead ball.  Since this is a double foul, no free throws will be attempted.

A-6, A-7, B-6, B-7 and B-8 are ejected for coming on the floor during a confrontation.  The team foul count for Team B will be increased by 5.  The team foul count for Team A will be increased by 3.

Each head coach will receive a total of one indirect technical foul.  This is for the team members who entered the court.  This results in the loss of the coaching box privileges for the remainder of the game.  Team A will be awarded two free throws since Team B had more team members who entered the court.  At the conclusion of the free throws, Team A will be awarded the ball at the division line opposite the table for a designated spot throw-in.
